Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) is once again the undisputed super middleweight champion after earning a unanimous decision victory (115-113, 116-112, 119-109) over previously undefeated Cuban contender William Scull (23-1, 9 KOs).
The bout lacked fireworks, with Scull choosing to stay on the outside and move around the ring rather than engage, while Canelo methodically tried to cut off the ring and land punishing body shots.
With the win, Canelo has officially secured a blockbuster showdown against Terence Crawford, scheduled for September 12 in Las Vegas. The highly anticipated clash is expected to headline the first event under Dana White’s new boxing promotion, TKO Boxing.
Badou Jack Reclaims WBC Title
In the night’s co-main event, Badou Jack (29-3-3, 17 KOs) edged out Norair Mikaeljan (27-3, 12 KOs) by majority decision (114-114, 115-113 x2) to reclaim the WBC cruiserweight title in a closely contested fight.
The victory could pave the way for a potential rematch with Jean Pascal. Pascal is slated to fight on June 28 for the interim WBC title, and if successful, a second meeting between the two would be a strong possibility.
Munguia Avenges Loss to Surace
After suffering a surprise defeat last December, Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) bounced back with a measured performance to outpoint Bruno Surace (26-1-2, 5 KOs). Munguia relied on a sharp jab and kept a high left guard to neutralize the Frenchman’s right hand, earning a unanimous decision win (116-112, 117-111 x2).
This marked Munguia’s first outing under renowned trainer Eddy Reynoso. Observers will be watching closely to see how he develops under Reynoso’s guidance—and whether a return to world champion status is in the cards.
