In the biggest fight of his career, Mathieu “G-Time” Germain (26-3-1, 11 KOs) suffered the third loss of his professional journey against the talented Brit Dalton Smith (18-0, 13 KOs). The bout took place this Saturday in Sheffield, England, with the WBC Silver super-lightweight title on the line.

Throughout the fight, Germain relied on his mobility, while Smith quickly took command of the center of the ring from the opening round. After establishing dominance with his jab early on, the local favorite dropped the Quebec fighter in the second round with a sharp left hook. A few rounds later, Smith once again shook Germain in the sixth.

By the seventh round, the Brit began to sit down on his punches more, clearly looking to inflict damage. He focused heavily on Germain’s body, aiming to slow down his movement.

In the eleventh, Germain hit the canvas again, this time from a powerful rear-hand straight. The same scene repeated in the final round, but “G-Time” showed heart and grit, making it to the final bell.

Smith walked away with a unanimous decision win, with scores of 117–107 and 119–105 twice.

The road ahead for Germain, now 35, remains uncertain. Will he aim to climb the rankings again or pursue lucrative international opportunities? One thing is clear: he proved he can go rounds with elite-level opponents.

Facing Germain could be an ideal test for rising prospects looking to gain experience against a slick, mobile veteran. And who knows—he may still have a few surprises left in him.

Back home in Quebec, fans would no doubt welcome some local matchups, especially in the stacked super-lightweight division featuring world-rated contenders like Mazlum Akdeniz and Arthur Biyarslanov.
