Steven Butler will face Patrice Volny on June 6th
By William Dumoulin
After several years of anticipation, Quebec boxing fans will be treated on June 6th at the Cabaret du Casino in Montreal, as Steven Butler (34-4-1, 28 KOs) takes on his local rival Patrice Volny (18-1, 12 KOs). This all-Quebec showdown is scheduled for 10 rounds, with the WBC Francophone middleweight title on the line. The winner can expect to climb back into the world rankings.
This is likely one of the most exciting local matchups in recent years in Quebec. It pits the power puncher, Butler, against the technician, Volny. Both have previously faced elite opponents. Steven has fought in world championships against Japan’s Ryota Murata and Kazakhstan’s Zhanibek Alimkhanuly. Patrice performed very well against Brazil’s Esquiva Falcao. This clash was therefore inevitable.
"It's nothing personal, but our paths have crossed. I'm just going to show everyone who is the king of the mountain at 160 pounds in Quebec," said Butler, who is coming off an explosive victory against another local rival, Steve Rolls.
Volny, on the other hand, preferred a shorter quote, saving his words for the ring: "They don't call me 'Vicious' for nothing."
An interesting undercard will also be presented by the Quebec promoter. Current IBO super middleweight champion Osleys Iglesias (10-0, 9 KOs) will make his return to the ring after an explosive victory against Marcelo Coceres. Additionally, Quebec native Leila Beaudoin (11-1, 1 KO) will also be in action following her victory on January 13th at the Videotron Centre. EOTTM’s newest signing, Arthur Biyarslanov (14-0, 12 KOs), will be fighting for the second time in less than 3 months.
To kick off the event, prospects Jhon Orobio (7-0, 7 KOs) and Fendero (4-0, 3 KOs) will return as they look to continue their knockout winning streaks.
