Clavel Returns Against the Spanish Champion
By Vincent Morin
Former WBC light flyweight world champion Kim Clavel is returning to the ring on April 4th at the Cabaret Casino in Montreal, where she will headline the event.
After her heartbreaking defeat in the IBF and WBO title unification bout against Argentine champion Evelin Nazarena Bermudez on October 7th at the Place Bell in Laval, the Quebec native will face Spain’s flyweight (112 lb) champion Fara El Bousairi (8-3, 3 KOs).
El Bousairi is riding a three-fight winning streak since her points loss in England to Brit Chloe Watson.
The Clavel-El Bousairi clash is set for 10 rounds at a catchweight of 110 pounds.
In the co-main event, Marie-Pier Houle (9-1-1, 2 KOs) will be in her second 10-round bout when she takes on the highly experienced Argentine Marisa Joana Portillo (20-18-3, 4 KOs).
Houle, managed by former pugilist Sébastien Gauthier, will be making her second appearance in the ring since her loss in the WBO welterweight (147 lb) world championship fight against Brit Sandy Ryan. She is now competing in the super lightweight (140 lb) division.
Middleweight Derek Pomerleau (7-0, 5 KOs) will face the toughest test of his career against the rugged Mexican Carlos Mohamed Rodriguez (15-12-1, 6 KOs).
Rodriguez gave Jamaican Joshua Frazier a scare, losing a split decision in his last outing on October 21st in Pickering, Ontario.
This will be Pomerleau’s first eight-round bout, under the guidance of trainer Stéphan Larouche.
Montreal light heavyweight Reid Twohey will make his professional debut on this occasion. The boxer, managed by Ian Mackillop, will face veteran Czech kickboxer Stepan Guba, who is also making his boxing debut.
In the super lightweight (140 lb) division, Grant brothers' protégé Theo Owusu (3-0, 2 KOs) will have his first six-round bout against Czech southpaw Petr Novak (1-0, 1 KO).
Novak is an accomplished amateur, having competed in the 2023 European Games and the 2016 World Youth Championship. He also went the distance against double Olympic gold medalist Cuban Andy Cruz in 2019.
In the opening bout, Montreal super lightweight Zacharie Loiseau (3-0-1, 1 KO) will face an opponent to be determined in a four-round match, also in the super lightweight division.
