Sara Couillard in Uncle Sam's Country
By Vincent Morin
Montreal native Sara Couillard hasn’t fought in two years, but she will have the opportunity to change that and showcase her talents in the United States on June 28th. The boxer, managed by Martin Germain and Ludovic Louis, will face American Alexis Bolduc at the Royale Nightclub in Boston, Massachusetts.
This nightclub is a popular venue where many pugilists, including Keyshawn Davis, Abraham Nova, and Rashidi Ellis, have laced up their gloves. Previously known as "The Roxy" before its closure in 2005, this club was where former IBF super-middleweight world champion Lucian Bute fought in 2004.
After a successful amateur career marked by three appearances at the Canadian Championships, Couillard (0-1, 0 KOs) decided to turn professional on June 2, 2022, at the Montreal Casino on a Yvon Michel (GYM) card.
She then narrowly lost a decision against Mexican kickboxing champion Flor Carrera Hernandez (2-0-1) in a bantamweight (118 lb) clash.
As for Bolduc (1-0), an American native of New Hampshire, she recently won the Central New England Golden Gloves novice title at 119 pounds before winning her first professional fight.
On February 16th in Melrose, Massachusetts, she defeated Ohio MMA fighter Chelsea LaGrasse (0-1, 0 KOs) by unanimous decision.
The Couillard-Bolduc face-off will be contested over four two-minute rounds in the super bantamweight (115 lb) division.
