Vidal's Appeal for the WBC Title
Source: Radio-Canada
Abril "La Tina" Vidal has officially filed an appeal with the World Boxing Council (WBC) after her controversial defeat against Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse. Accompanied by her team, Vidal criticized the Quebec judges, promoter Camille Estephan of Eye of the Tiger Management, and the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux du Québec.
They questioned the jury's composition, which included three judges of the same nationality as Lepage-Joanisse, and the quality of the Rival gloves used during the fight. Despite the presence of a WBC supervisor, no irregularities were reported at the event held at the Montreal Casino. The decision, favoring Lepage-Joanisse, was delivered with scores of 97-93, 94-96, and 97-93 by two of the three Quebec judges.
If the WBC agrees to review the fight, a panel of 50 judges will need to decide by a two-thirds majority in favor of Vidal to order a rematch. Although the initial result may stand, Lepage-Joanisse would be required to defend her title against Vidal.
