Manny Pacquiao Shocks the World Against Mario Barrios
Nearly four years after his loss to Yordenis Ugas, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) made his long-awaited return to the ring at age 46. The Filipino icon stepped back into the spotlight with a shot at the WBC welterweight title, facing current belt holder Mario Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs).
Was Pacquiao Robbed?
From the opening bell, Pacquiao showed flashes of his trademark speed, unleashing rapid-fire combinations often punctuated with his signature left hand. Barrios, for his part, looked to counter the southpaw with a straight right but appeared hesitant to throw in combinations. In most exchanges, Pacquiao seemed to have the upper hand.
Many believed the eight-division world champion had done enough to win. However, the judges saw it differently, scoring the bout a majority draw (114-114 x2, 115-113).
At 46, Pacquiao proved he still has something left in the tank. The real question now is whether he can replicate this kind of performance in a potential rematch with Barrios. Time, as always, is undefeated.
Fundora Stops Tszyu Again
In the co-main event, American towering contender Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) faced Australia’s Tim Tszyu (25-3, 18 KOs) in a highly anticipated rematch. Fundora set the tone early, dropping Tszyu with a powerful straight left in the very first round. The fight quickly turned into a slugfest, with both men trading heavy shots.
After a punishing seventh round, Tszyu remained on his stool, unable to answer the bell for round eight, giving Fundora the win by TKO.
