In the first-ever live boxing event streamed on Netflix, 58-year-old heavyweight legend Mike Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) returned to the ring to face popular YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs). The event took place at AT&T Stadium in Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
In the main event of the night, Jake Paul largely dominated Tyson with superior mobility and an active jab. It was clear from the start that Tyson lacked the footwork and energy needed to throw a high volume of punches. Although few powerful shots landed cleanly, Paul had the upper hand in this aspect, while Tyson struggled to get close enough to launch his own attacks. The fight ended with Jake Paul winning by unanimous decision (80-72, 79-73 x2).
In the co-main event, fans were treated to the highly anticipated rematch between undisputed super-lightweight champion Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) and unified featherweight champion Amanda Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs). Their first clash set Madison Square Garden on fire, with Katie Taylor edging out a victory on the judges’ scorecards. Like their first encounter, this fight was spectacular in every way, showcasing a fierce battle between the two best female boxers in the world, featuring intense infighting and numerous powerful exchanges.
However, as in their first bout, Katie Taylor emerged victorious once again with a very close decision (95-94 x3). These two fighters have delivered, on two occasions, what may be some of the best bouts in the history of women’s boxing. A trilogy fight would certainly be welcomed, given the quality and intensity of the first two matches.
This event also marked the first title defense of WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios (29-2-1, 18 KOs) against Abel Ramos (28-6-3, 22 KOs). The thrilling and competitive fight, which featured a knockdown on both sides, ended in a draw (112-114, 113-113, 116-110).
Other Fights of the Night:
- Neeraj Goyat (20-4-2, 8 KOs) defeated Whindersson Nunes (0-1, 0 KOs) by unanimous decision (60-54 x2, 59-54).
- Shadasia Green (15-1, 11 KOs) won the WBO super middleweight title against Canada’s Melinda Watpool (7-1, 2 KOs) by split decision (97-93, 94-96, 96-94).
- Canadian Lucas Bahdi (18-0, 15 KOs) beat Armando Casamonica (14-1, 3 KOs) by majority decision (96-93, 98-92, 95-95).
- Bruce Carrington (14-0, 8 KOs) secured a unanimous decision win (80-70 x3) against Dana Coolwell (13-3, 8 KOs).
