Camara vs. Hunter at La Tohu on September 14 for the WBA Gold World Title
The new WBA Gold champion, Jessica Camara (13-4, 3 KOs), will make the first defense of her world title on September 14 during a new event organized by Canada Fighting Club. This boxing evening will take place at La Tohu in Montreal, a venue with approximately 1200 seats. The challenger for Camara's title is the experienced Ontarian, Bonnie Hunter (5-3, 3 KOs). Hunter will go all out to dethrone the Montreal native in a fight scheduled for 10 rounds.
Jessica Camara is known for not backing down from any challenge, and her last one was a significant one: going to uncharted territory in South Korea to face an undefeated champion and seize the WBA Gold lightweight title. After a high-paced and dominated fight by the Montrealer, Hyun Mi Choi, who was undefeated until then, suffered her first career loss, handing over her title to this tough opponent nicknamed "Cobra".
Having a warrior like Camara headline its second event in less than a year was an obvious choice for the promoter Canada Fighting Club. Having two Canadians in a championship fight is a guarantee of success and aligns perfectly with Canada Fighting Club's goal, which is to offer the opportunity for emerging talents and independent boxers to shine under the spotlight on the Montreal scene. Quebec boxing fans will thus have a new opportunity to witness a major local fight.
For Bonnie Hunter, this is the ultimate chance of her professional career. At 40 years old, time is running out for the Scarborough native. She is finally getting her first shot at a title and will certainly have a preparation adapted to the challenge posed by the Portuguese-origin Montrealer. Hunter has fought both in Canada and Mexico and should not be intimidated by boxing in front of a hostile crowd.
Stay tuned for the complete card announcement and also for the ticket sale, which will start in the coming days. In the meantime, we invite you to follow and check Canada Fighting's social networks and blog to stay informed about the latest in professional boxing here and elsewhere.
