Lepage-Joanisse in the WBC world championship

By Vincent Morin

Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse (6-1, 2 KOs) will once again try to capture the vacant WBC women's heavyweight title against Argentina's Abril Argentina Vidal (10-1, 4 KOs). This world championship fight will take place on the March 7 card presented by Eye of the Tiger at the Montreal Casino.

This will be a second attempt at the world championship for the boxer from Outaouais. Indeed, on August 12, 2017 in Cancun, Mexico, she suffered her only career defeat against the WBC heavyweight world champion at the time, Mexican Alejandra Jimenez.

Also in support fight, EOTTM's new acquisition, Osleys Iglesias (9-0, 8 KO), IBO world super-middleweight champion (168 lbs), will face Argentinian Marcelo Coceres (32-6-1 , 18 KO). The latter is no stranger to the supporters of La Belle Province, since he performed well against Laval resident Erik Bazinyan on June 23, 2022 at the Montreal Casino, where he lost by unanimous decision.

In the final of the evening, Montreal middleweight Steven Butler (33-4-1, 27 KO) will face Torontonian Steve Rolls (22-3, 12 KO) in an interesting Canadian clash. This fight risks causing a major turning point in the career of the person who emerges defeated from this confrontation.

Super featherweight Thomas Chabot (9-0, 7 KOs), lightweight Luis Santana (10-0, 4 KOs), super middleweight Wilkens Mathieu (7-0, 4 KOs), and Colombian lightweight Jhon Orobio (6-0, 6 KOs) will also be in action against rivals to be determined.

New recruits

In addition to the arrival of Iglesias, EOTTM announced the signing of two new boxers this Monday.

Canadian Olympian Arthur Biyarslanov (13-0, 11 KO) and Russian middleweight Shamil Khataev (12-0, 3 KO) are now under the thumb of the Montreal promoter.

Biyarslanov, a 28-year-old left-handed super-lightweight from Ontario, is already training in Montreal. As for Khataev, he is the younger brother of EOTTM protégé and Russian Olympian, Imam Khataev.
