Following his impressive victory over Steven Butler last June, Patrice Volny (19-2, 13 KOs) had to wait nine months for another opportunity to prove he belongs among the elite of the division. That chance finally came this Saturday in Orlando, where he faced the dangerous Austin "Ammo" Williams (18-1, 12 KOs).
A Solid Performance Despite the Loss
As usual, Volny had a slow start in the first three rounds. He kept a high guard while his opponent, Williams, threw multiple body shot combinations, most of which were blocked by the Quebec fighter's gloves. After a strong fourth round, Volny began shifting the momentum in the fifth, increasing the pressure on "Ammo," who relied more on his mobility. Volny dominated the sixth round, largely thanks to his dangerous counter left hook, but Williams managed to rock him towards the end of the round.
The following rounds were highly competitive, pitting Volny’s precision against Williams’ higher output.
In the end, Ammo Williams secured the victory by unanimous decision (118-110, 116-112, 115-113). The scorecards, however, did not fully reflect how close the fight actually was.
Hopefully, Volny will remain active and get more international opportunities, as he has once again proven that he can compete with the best in the middleweight division.
