Eye of the Tiger announced today a major local bout between Steven Butler (35-5-1, 29 KOs) and Erik Bazinyan (32-1-1, 23 KOs) as part of their "Sans Détours" event, scheduled for March 14. This matchup continues EOTT's trend of showcasing local battles, following the Bazinyan-Phinn and Butler-Volny clashes in 2024.
For Steven Butler, this fight marks his debut in the super middleweight division after two unsuccessful world title attempts at middleweight. Always bold, Butler accepted this challenge without hesitation:
"I’ve never been afraid of anyone. No matter who my team suggested, I’ve always had the guts to go for it, and that’s not going to change with Erik Bazinyan or anyone else. For 10 years, I’ve been putting on great shows, and that’s not going to change on March 14 either."
As for Erik Bazinyan, this matchup represents a crucial opportunity to reignite his career after a solid performance in his loss to Jaime Munguia. Confident, Bazinyan views this fight as a significant step toward climbing the ranks of the division once more:
"Steven has fought for the world title twice. He’s a good boxer, everyone knows him, and this fight will get people talking. I trust my team and the process to get me to the top."
Notably, this fight will not take place at the Casino de Montréal but rather at the Théâtre St-Denis. The venue can accommodate approximately 2,200 spectators, compared to only 600 at the Casino de Montréal. The larger venue reflects the promoter’s confidence in the fans’ interest in this bout.
